Untitled-5Pediatric Hospitalist Services

Hospitalization is a significant event in the life of a child and his or her family. As the care that is delivered to children on an outpatient basis becomes more sophisticated, illnesses that warrant hospitalization are becoming more complex and severe. The Pediatric Hospitalist, as the admitting physician, coordinates the patient's medical care while the patient is in the hospital. The Hospitalist will be in direct communication with the child's primary care physician throughout the hospital stay. The Hospitalist will integrate all the input of the specialists and other ancillary providers that may be involved in the patient's care in order to give the patient the best medical care possible.

Prior to discharge, the Hospitalist will communicate with the primary care physician to ensure that all the necessary medical information gets transmitted to them for proper follow up of care. Because the Hospitalist physicians are not working in the outpatient setting, they are able to assume all the responsibilities necessary to care for the hospitalized patient. The Pediatric Hospitalist's activities focus on patient care, teaching, and leadership related to hospital care.
