Sofia Catena, MD
Biography:
Dr. Sofia Catena brings international training and experience to her work as a pediatric geneticist at KIDZ Medical Services. She helps children and families navigate complex genetic conditions with clarity and compassion, drawing on a background that spans Argentina, Chile, and the United States.
She completed her pediatric residency and fellowship in medical genetics at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Before moving to the United States, she completed an additional residency in clinical genetics at the National Center of Medical Genetics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she earned the highest national score for admission.
Dr. Catena previously served as a professor of genetics at the Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago, Chile. In this role, she taught clinical genetics to medical students and supervised pediatric residents during their genetics rotations, helping train the next generation of clinicians.
She has presented her work at international genetics conferences and authored peer‑reviewed publications on rare genetic disorders, including Raine syndrome and Silver‑Russell syndrome. Her research reflects a strong commitment to advancing the understanding and diagnosis of rare and complex conditions.
Dr. Catena is a member of the European Society of Human Genetics and the Argentinean Society of Genetics. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and French, and focuses on giving families clear explanations and practical next steps throughout the genetic evaluation process.
