About the Doctors

Haneen Abdella photoDr. Abdella received her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the Jackson Memorial Hospital Pediatric Residency program. She also completed the Emory University Pediatric Hematology Oncology Fellowship. Dr. Abdella’s areas of interest include solid tumors, especially high-risk neuroblastoma, bone, and soft tissue sarcomas. She is certified in the American Board of Pediatrics.

Dr. Alrazzak received his degree from the University of Aleppo in Syria, where he graduated ranked number 4 in his class. He completed his pediatric residency at Miami Children’s Hospital. He completed his pediatric hematology oncology fellowship at SUNY in Buffalo, New York. He is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, the American Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Guillermo DeAngulo photoDr. De Angulo received his medical degree at the Escuela de Ciencias Medicas/Universidad Autonoma de Centro America in San Jose, Costa Rica. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Driscoll Children’s Hospital/Texas A&M University College of Medicine and a fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. During his fellowship he was awarded the Young Investigator Travel Award by the American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. De Angulo is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology. Dr. De Angulo actively participates in research. He has published and has presented research outcomes at numerous national and international conferences.

Dr. Edrees received his medical degree from the University of Aleppo in Syria, where he graduated ranked number 5 in his class. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his pediatric hematology oncology fellowship at the University of Alabama. Dr. Edrees is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Syrian American Medical Society, and the Children’s Oncology Group.

Dr. Egas-Bejar received her medical degree from the Universidad Catolica De Santiago De Guayaquil in Ecuador. She completed her pediatric residency at the Miami Children’s Hospital in Miami, Florida. She completed her pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. Dr. Egas-Bejar is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has a sub board in pediatric hematology and oncology. She also has a certification through the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates.

Enrique Escalon photoDr. Escalon earned his medical degree from University of El Salvador Medical School. He served his residency at Miami Children’s Hospital, and was appointed chief resident in 1974. Dr. Escalon completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at Miami Children’s Hospital and is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology. Dr. Escalon has also served since 1990 as Principal MCH Investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group, a prestigious national cancer research organization in which MCH holds membership status.

Maggie Fader photoDr. Fader earned her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. She completed a Pediatric Residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and a Pediatric Hematology Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center – New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weil Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Fader’s interests include leukemia and lymphoma, and solid tumors. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, the American Board of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Kamar Godder photoDr. Godder received her medical degree from Hebrew University and Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel. She completed her residency at Hadassah Medical Center in Jersusalem and a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. Her interests include bone marrow transplantation, leukemia, and sickle cell disease. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Pediatrics Hematology Oncology. She has a Master’s in Public Health from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Gowda received his medical degree from the Bangalor Medical College in India. He completed his pediatric residency at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn in New York, where he completed his pediatric hematology oncology fellowship as well. Dr. Gowda is board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and the Florida Association of Pediatric Tumor Programs.

Ziad Khatib photoDr. Khatib received his medical degree from American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and a fellowship in hematology oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Khatib is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, and the Society of Neuro-Oncology. He participates in conducting research studies involving children with brain tumors and testing new approaches for cancer treatment.

Athena Pefkarou photoDr. Pefkarou received her medical degree from the University College Hospital at London University in London, England. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore and a fellowship in pediatric hematology oncology at Miami Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pefkarou is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology.

Dr. Ramirez received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Services. He completed his pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Ramirez is board certified in Pediatrics. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Intercultural Cancer Council, the American Society of Clinical, and the Children’s Oncology Group.

Dr. Saxena received his medical degree from the Gandhi Medical College in India. He completed his pediatric residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York University, where he was appointed Chief Resident. He completed his pediatric hematology oncology fellowship at SUNY University Hospital at Brooklyn in New York. Dr. Saxena is board certified in pediatric hematology oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics.
