
Carmen Ramos, MD
Biography:
Dr. Carmen Theresa Ramos-Irizarry is a pediatric surgeon who provides surgical care for children from newborns to 18 years old.
A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Dr Ramos-Irizarry completed her general surgery training in a combined program at the University of Puerto Rico and Harvard University in 1994. She subsequently spent three years at the University of New Mexico as a research fellow and instructor in surgery. In 1999, Dr. Ramos-Irizarry completed her formal pediatric surgery training at the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She received a master’s in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a master’s in clinical investigation at the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Ramos-Irizarry is board certified in surgery and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery. Currently, she is an associate examiner for the certifying exam of the American Board of Surgery. Her clinical interests include trauma care, and she is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor.
Dr. Ramos-Irizarry joined KIDZ Medical Services and NCH Healthcare System in Naples in 2017. Previously, she worked for prominent institutions such as Columbia University and New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Centers in New York City; Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx; and Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (fka Miami Children’s Hospital) in Miami. She served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2001 and worked at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany in 2003.
She was recently awarded with the prestigious membership to the Delta Omega Alpha Honor Society in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University, as well as named Top Doctor in 2019 by Naples Illustrated. Dr. Ramos-Irizarry is an editorial reviewer for the Injury Epidemiology journal, Journal of Pediatric Surgery case reports, American Journal of Surgery, and the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Public Health Association, American Pediatric Surgical Association, NCH Safe & Healthy Children’s Coalition of Collier County (board of directors), and Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
